Dive Brief:

  • Bonobos has appointed John Hutchison as its new CEO, according to a Thursday press release emailed to Retail Dive.
  • Before joining Bonobos, Hutchison held multiple executive roles at The North Face and leadership positions at Nike. Most recently he was the President of TRX, where he led a turnaround. Hutchison stepped into the chief executive role on Oct. 10.
  • The company’s previous CEO, Micky Onvural, stepped down from the company in January. David Meir, the brand’s COO and CFO, was serving as interim CEO as he continued to hold his other titles, a spokesperson confirmed to Retail Dive.

Dive Insight:

Bonobos has had multiple leadership changes over the past few years. In 2018, Andy Dunn, the company’s founder and former CEO, stepped down and Onvural was promoted from chief marketer to CEO. The executive change came after Walmart acquired the brand in 2017 for $310 million.

After five years at Bonobos, Onvural left the brand in January to become the chief marketing and communications officer at TIAA, the Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association of America-College Retirement Equities Fund.

Now the brand has yet another leader at the helm.

Bonobos introduced a new menswear line in February called Bonobos Fielder, a decision it made to try to attract Gen Z shoppers. Priced between $14 and $40, the line is carried at 250 Walmart locations and on the Bonobos and Walmart websites — marking the first time the company has been incorporated into Walmart stores.
